Here's what happened at our kids' Halloween party 2014!Read More
Decorations say celebration! Whether your just having a few balloons, streamers & a decorative cake table, your child will be delighted that something extra special (the party) is happening on their special day! I have been to parties where the styling has been out of this world and looks good enough to grace the pages of party styling magazines! The key to this type of party styling is to plan way in advance. Get set to Google and Pintrest yourself silly! There are so many handy hints and fabulous inexpensive ideas all over the net!
These days you can find lots of interesting bits & pieces at the good old $2 shops. The new Coles supermarket at Waurn Ponds has a whole party section which seems to have taken on the Reject Store party supplies! It was an interesting move by Diva- fashion jewellery stores, to now re-open as a Children's party shop especially when good decorations are as handy as the local supermarket! Party supplies are everywhere!
Check out the Op shops for glassware and fabrics! Look around your own home! The doilies you have stored away, would be perfect for your daughters high tea party. Any old ones could be cut in half and sewn to make a beautiful doily bunting!
For your son's spider man party, use his spider man action hero for the cake table. Use the poster on his wall as a decoration. Find some comic books with his favourite super hero and make your own bunting.
The great thing about having your party hosted by Willow Star Entertainment, is that we can offer inexpensive hire of beautiful decorations that will go with your theme. Chances are that we have your chosen theme decorations, but if not, because your theme is as unique as a "Rainbow-fairy-mermaid-pink-pony-glitter-cat party", we will be able to source them or help you source them.
Remember if you are planning way in advance, to keep track of your spending and what you have bought!
My number #1 favourite place to shop is Ebay! Some new specialised decorations can be quite costly, so check the 2nd hand items out. Recycle, Reuse, Reduce our landfill!
If there is one thing I can strongly suggest you don't leave off your party list, it's the lolly bag!
Our kids attend so many parties these days, that the lolly bag distributed at the end of the party, is pretty much standard procedure & has come to symbolize, it's time to go home!
Recently I did a party styling workshop, and it was all about the lolly bag and cake table decorations. You can make Lolly bags be part of your cake table decorations. Beautiful bright colours or patterns to match your party theme, although, Lolly bags and their contents, don't have to be elaborate. For example, for a Spiderman party, you can buy the standard Spiderman lolly bags from Spotlight and put a mixture of different lollies in the bag. Done!
I have also used the Yummy Mummy lolly shop for my lolly bags in the past. Already made up, they were only $1 each and they came complete with clear bag and ribbon. Too easy!
If you have time and are like me who loves to create, try a custom made lolly bag. They do look special and I am all for spending time planning and sourcing things from local shops and the net. I guess that's part of the reason that I do what I do. Enjoy bringing your child's vision to life and perhaps involve them in the process. Do it together as an afternoon art & craft session.
If you want to give a healthier goodie bag to the children to take home, maybe just pop in some dried fruit with some stationary such as stickers, erasers, pencils. It's up to you.
If the kids are all full and it looks like the cake may go to waste, try wrapping up some cake and put that in the lolly/goodie bag to go home with the child.
This is my first BLOG ever! I am going to try to post them every couple of weeks, for those who are interested. I am hoping to share party hosting tips for any mums & dads out there wanting to throw a successful stress free event!
MUSIC is a great place to start when planning your party. Is there a theme? How old are the guests? These questions point me in the right direction for creating the most appropriate playlist. When planning a playlist for a children's party, I ask the parent of the birthday child for 3 of their favourite songs. This automatically guides me with what music is going to best suit the child and their guests. For example, I have asked a mother of a six year old girl for her favourite songs... I was told 'ABBA'. Another mother of six year old tells me 'Justine Clarke', 'Nursery rhymes' & 'Barbie', and then there are the six years olds that are all for 'One Direction', 'Katy Perry' & 'P!nk'. Making sure I have the right playlist is instrumental in the party's success!
If the party is themed, I will match the playlist with themed music and then add some usual favourites to the playlist about halfway through. For example, for a Pirate themed party, I have put together a great playlist which has specific songs for games, face painting, snack time & when I'm balloon twisting. Songs such as Sailing, Sea Cruise, Captain Feathersword, Anchors Aweigh, & Wipeout. It even includes sea & sailing sound effects at the beginning of the party to create the feeling of being on a pirate ship. Including the theme song of JAWS randomly throughout the playlist is great for a Shark game! But by about half way through I add the usual suspects Gangnam Style, Firework, Party Rock Anthem, Bom Bom Bom.
Technology today makes it super easy to access iTunes on your iphone for any last minute requests, but having a playlist pre set and ready to go will make life easier.
I will talk more about themes later on down the track, especially about the hit movie Frozen, which is being non stop requested for the latest party theme. With an incredible soundtrack like that, music is as simple as buying the album and letting your party guests sing along. If you buy the deluxe version, you will get the karaoke tracks too! FUN FUN FUN!
